Responsive Web Design

Our vision for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s family of websites began when we realized what we weren't seeing. Animals. The online experience needed to capture the on-site experience—the amazing range of species, the colorful environments, and the excitement of both. Each site had to create a unified human experience that conveyed the unique character of each park, on any device.

We developed a distinct tone of voice that we compared to “a cool science teacher who blows stuff up in class.” Part naturalist. Part entertainer. Our solution was a common wireframe for consistent functionality. To differentiate the sites, each incorporated custom fonts, color palettes, and textures that created a look inspired by each unique park.

Beyond aesthetics, we created engagement opportunities that brought the best of each park to life. From Safari Golf Club's "Explore the Golf Course" functionality to the Zoo and The Wilds "Memorable Moments" photo-sharing feature. Creating lifelong relationships with guests started with simplifying the planning process—so we reimagined the event calendar as an “Adventure Tracker.” Suddenly, adventure was easy. Project completed during Andrew’s time as Creative Director and Designer at Fine Citizens.
